The transition from summer to winter can be rough. Hot, sunny days join swimsuits, margarita glasses and summer romance in hybernation. Don't despair.
Trail conditions in the fall are unbeatable. Sporadic rains control dust and soft sand. Cooler weather leaves you with more energy than sweat-producing conditions. Bugs have been zapped by freezing nights. Of course days are shorter, with the threat of the season's first snowfall, but that just adds to the adventure.
Here's some gear designed to whet your appetite for the changing season. Pack away your windsurfer, and start polishing your goggles and waxing your skis. And brushing up on your Polka step will get you into the Oktoberfest spirit.
